The house
A publisher is judged by what is still on the shelf after the season has passed. Leafwren makes books for that shelf: plainly titled, carefully set, and bound for the hands that will use them.
Rules of the house
Three, and they do not changeI
Two scripts, one standard.
English and Hindi are set as equals. Devanagari has its own book face, a size larger and with more room between the lines, so the matras never crowd the line above.
II
The book serves the hand.
Paper, size and binding follow from how a book will be used: stock that takes a crayon without tearing, type large enough to read from the floor, a binding that lets the book lie open.
III
Say plainly what is inside.
A Leafwren book names who wrote it and what they are qualified to say. Where a text is new rather than handed down, the book says so on the page.
The name

/liːf/noun
A single sheet of a bound book, printed on both sides. One leaf carries two pages, and it is the thing a binder counts.
wren
/rɛn/noun
A small brown bird with a cocked tail and a song far louder than its size.
Together: a house that makes books one leaf at a time, and means them to be heard.
